What Happened?

Destiny was walking across the street at approximately 6:30 a.m. when a vehicle turning the corner struck the right side of her hip on September 7, 2017. She fell to the ground immediately in front of the vehicle and, thankfully, the vehicle was able to stop right away. Destiny was helped out of the road and onto the curb by her mother. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Montefiore Medical Center where she was evaluated, treated, and discharged home the same day. The next day, her pain grew worse to the point where she could not walk. To help with her stability and mobility, Destiny was required to use a walking cane.

Destiny injured her neck, lower back, right hip, and left ankle due to the accident. She felt excruciating pain and stiffness in her neck. The pain in her lower back radiated down both legs with left-sided weakness and tingling. Since the vehicle struck her right hip, she had bruising and pain in the right hip area where she was hit. While several weeks of therapy did improve her hip pain and ankle pain, her neck and back pain were still very bothersome and limited her abilities to bend, lift, carry, perform household chores, and regular activities of daily living. Thanks to minimally invasive pain management therapy, Destiny reached maximum medical improvement in about 6 months from the date of the accident.
